"'I wore Crocs today', and other moral compromises I have made"

I just don't like being barefoot. Isn't that weird, because I used to LOVE going barefoot all the time...but I think that was back when I had time to mop the floor regularly. For the last couple of years, my hardwood floors have been severely neglected and I don't think it was particularly sanitary to walk around on them. Now that Mona is here, they are mopped on a regular basis again. However, I have yet to go back to the "days of yore" (I learned everything I know about history from Rachel Green.) when I once frolicked barefoot around the house without a care. I need my feet protected.

This is where the "you know what"s come in...

I had to do it.

I couldn't find my black flip flops.

Or my brown ones.

The only shoes that were available to me in the kitchen (because who wants to make the big trek to my closet to look for other shoes? I mean it's really hot outside...and walking across the house would require me to see the outside through the windows and I just didn't even want to see how hot it was out there.) were Waylen's olive green Crocs. I slipped them on just to see what the big fuss was about. Sure...they were comfortable...and squishy and all that...and for a moment I did have a fantasy about wearing the new fuzzily lined ones that I had seen at Journey's Kidz earlier in the day...BUT I cleared my head of that thought right quick because it's NOT happening. I'm not ever buying Crocs for myself.

Well, I continued to wear them for several hours...three long hours where I could feel every ounce of cool, ooze out of my body...I mean there wasn't much in there to begin with, but what little amount I did have wanted the h-e double hockey sticks OUT! I might as well have headed over to the Dodge Dealership to hop in my new Caravan...<shudder>.

OK, so I don't mean to like hatin' on all you soccer moms who swear by your Odysseys and lime green Crocs...it's just not me...well not so much...I've definitely got a touch of PTA Prez in me...I mean I do shop at Costco...

Exhaustion...

It is SO hard to try and be entertaining and funny and creative when you are completely exhausted. We just shot a webisode with the kids and I and I thought it would be all cute and funny and it was SO stressful. I just didn't have my normal energy and it is probably going to be really boring. At the beginning when I do my whole "Hi I'm Jeanette Herdman, and you're watching Scrap In Style TV" thing, West just started busting up laughing and I looked at him and he goes, "you're making me laugh". I think he was like embarrassed or something by me because I was talking in my "TV show hostess" voice. LOL It was pretty cute. Other than that it was really miserable. I'm just so tired...<sigh>. My Red Bull couldn't even pull me through. We did complete the webisode though...barely. :)

Red Bull is my friend...

Every morning,  I wake up and look forward to a nice cold can of Red Bull...ahhh. I don't drink coffee so I guess this is kind of like my morning vice. If I open the fridge and there isn't any Red Bull on the door, I am deeply saddened...I mean, how am I supposed spend the day running my business, being creative and detail oriented all the while dealing with interruptions from all five kids every ten minutes, without my precious Red Bull??? I'm just not sure I can do it...this is why it is often necessary to take a trip to the gas station to get my Red Bull on those days when I expectantly open the fridge door and find that my last Red Bull has been consumed.  On those days I allow myself to get the larger 12 oz size, seeing as how I had to go to such great lengths to get it.

You might think it's kind of sad that Red Bull brings me such happiness. However, I consider myself fortunate to have such a simple pleasure, you know? Red Bull and Us Weekly Magazine are definitely my guilty pleasures...to have a few minutes of time to steal away and read a gossip rag while drinking an energy drink evokes more joy in my soul than I care to admit. :)

In other news, Walker just came and sat next to me and read the subject line of this post! He just turned six about two weeks ago...at the end of his kindergarten year, he could only read like two words and he just read "friend". OK, so the reading tutor we hired for the summer has seriously paid off!!

All this talk about the kids reading leads to my next announcement...I am homeschooling this year. I will give you all a minute to get up from the floor and back on your chairs...ok, you back? OK, I know I sound crazy starting to homeschool just as my business is beginning to take off, but my kids are the most important thing here, and I want to be involved in their education. Since I work from home, I can homeschool in the mornings and go to work around noon and then work until 7:00p or 8:00p. My mom and Bob will be here to help during the days as well, so I really feel like this is going to be a good thing...check back with me in a few months, though. LOL

Gotta get back to work! My SISters need me...

For Becca...

My dear friend, Becca Sutton has dedicated a large part of her life to an incredible cause. A cause that is VERY close to home for her...I encourage you to visit her blog and check out the huge commitment she has made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She is participating in a walk this weekend and would appreciate any and all donations to help her team raise their goal of $20,000. I would consider it a personal favor if you would donate something to this wonderful cause. Thanks!

The black curtain

Didn't that sound all like dramatic and communist like? "THE BLACK CURTAIN" da da DA (that was me singing that little tune that always plays when something really dramatic happens on TV)...

Well, actually the black curtain is my new partition for my office/studio. See my studio doesn't have a door on it...maybe that's because it was meant to be a dining room, I dunno...but we put a gate up (Bob built this very "lovely" contraption that allows the gate to work even though it's really not wide enough for the opening), so the kids can't really get in (although all but one of them know how to open the gate now)...well the thing is, they still come up to the gate and like interrupt me constantly! Ugh! I have such a hard time getting anything done...so Bob devised a plan...it's a good plan, although we are really one upping ourselves with the whole "white trash factor"...

THE BLACK CURTAIN...That's right, he has somehow created a large black curtain on a pole and he hung it over the opening to my studio...now I tried to get some pictures of it but I had my telephoto lens on my camera and I was to lazy to change it so the pictures don't look like much...

In other news, I am out of Red Bull and this is a very very bad thing...my Red Bull consumption is like a highlight of my day (I know that sounds sad, but it's really not...I mean simple pleasures are what life is all about, right?) I have a hard time functioning without my Red Bell each morning...in fact I think I am going to go to the gas station right now and get one! And I'm going to get one of the BIG ones...I mean, I deserve it, right? 12 oz of pure liquid energy...ahhhh....OK I'm going right now, I can't stand it!!!!

Don't neglect your A/C...or your neck!

I'm sitting here sweating like a P.I.G. in my office/studio because apparently our AC unit is on summer vacation. I mean the thing is kind of working, but not well...not well at all...and yet our electricity bill has been well over $500 the last two months. Ugh! My new Clean & Clear blotting papers don't even have a chance at combating my shininess right now. Seriously. I could probably just stick them all over my face and they would just stay there like Post It notes.

OK, so I'm sure you've noticed that my blog has been SERIOUSLY neglected since May. I mean, I can't believe people even still come here but every once in a while someone mozey's on over here and posts. Most recently it was my good friend the Porno Website Encyclopedia Man. His comment was QUITE long and listed like 100 of his favorite porn sites. They had the best names ever, but I'm pretty sure it's some type of FCC or CyberspaceCC violation to even repeat them, so...

I guess I need some BLOG security system now. Like where you have to enter in those letters and numbers to make sure you're not a robot. The thing is, robots are supposed to be smarter than humans, right? So why is it that we think a robot isn't capable of typing the same letter/number combinations?

OK, so back to my blog neglect...

I'm really sorry...I mean I really like blogging, it's WAY fun. And I can kind of be like "unofficial" over here whereas on the site I am like kind of official and can't really have a lot of opinions and such. But here I can say whatever I want, right? LOL Yeah, I didn't think so either.

Things in my life are REALLY busy right now. We have so much going on with the website and starting the "building of the empire" thing. I guess it takes like a LOT of time to build an empire.

Like really a lot.

It's all good though. I'm up for it. We're off to a good start. There are just SO many decisions that have to be made, and so many little details that you have no idea are going to consume so much of your time. Sometimes I definitely feel like the tail is wagging the dog, but I'm hoping to get a handle on things soon. We just don't have any employees yet, so it's just me and Lawyer Gary (who is my dad, by the way)...I never say that on the site, but I can say it here because I'm all "unofficial" here and stuff, remember? My reasoning in the whole "Lawyer Gary" thing is that I don't really want to say 'my dad this and my dad that" on the site because it sounds a little weird, but I don't really feel like calling him Gary either because that's weird, too...so Kiki had come up with the name "Lawyer Gary" for him and now I'm using it too! LOL Just online, in real life I actually call him dad. :)

Anyway, it's mainly the two of us working full time and then Mona and Bob helping from time to time (Bob does all the video stuff, as well). So it's getting a little exhausting...I work like 16 hours a day...and last week I didn't get to watch Big Brother at all on the nights it was actually aired!

Well, I do have a lot to write, but I don't want to overwhelm you all on my first day back. :D I'll save some for tomorrow...because I'm realizing the importance of keeping up my blog.

Lots of LUB!

Jeanette
